Mijn naam is Daniel Leenders. Ik speel viool vanaf mijn derde. Op mijn achtste werd ik toegelaten op het Jong Talent van het conservatorium en volgde ik lessen bij Coosje Wijzenbeek en Koosje van Haeringen. Op mijn veertiende ben ik toegelaten aan het Conservatoire Royal de Mons in de klas van Daniel Rubenstein. Mijn bachelor en mijn master heb ik afgerond aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Daar had ik les bij Peter Brunt en Vera Beths. In het wintersemester van 2019 heb ik een exchange gedaan aan Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia, waar ik les had van Dr. Eduard Schmieder.

Ik nam deel aan masterclassen zoals Upbeat International Summer Music School in Kroatie, Internationale Sommerakademie in Oostenrijk, Festival Mozart in België en Festival Pablo Casals in Frankrijk. Hier volgde ik lessen bij o.a. Shmuel Ashkenasy, Hagai Shaham, Dora Schwartzberg, Eszter Haffner, Olivier Charlier, Ulf Wallin, György Pauk en Elina Vähälä.

Ik ben prijswinnaar op verschillende concoursen, zoals Stichting Jong Muziektalent Nederland, Iordens Viooldagen en het Prinses Christina Concours. In 2013 won ik de 3e prijs op het Nedjalka Simeonova International Violin Competition in Bulgarije. In 2017 ontving ik de Special Prize op het 1st Ilona Fehér Violin Competition in Boedapest.

Als solist heb ik regelmatig opgetreden met verschillende orkesten, waaronder het Orquesta Filarmónica de la Universidad de Alicante olv Mihnea Ignat. Ik heb vioolconcerten uitgevoerd van o.a. Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn en Bruch. 

In het kader van orkestspel heb ik deelgenomen aan projecten met Nationaal Jeugdorkest en het Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. Daarnaast speel ik regelmatig in kamerorkesten en grote symfonieorkesten in Nederland en het buitenland, zoals bij het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Kamerata Zuid en Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. Voor het seizoen van 2025-2026 ben ik academist bij het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest.

Mede dankzij het NMF kan ik mijn ontwikkeling als musicus uiterst goed voortzetten. In het verleden speelde ik op een viool van Giulio Degani, daarna op de François-Louis Pique die werd bespeeld door Theo Olof. Deze viool was overigens de favoriet van Theo Olof, wat het een eer maakte om erop te mogen spelen. Inmiddels heb ik mijn eigen instrument kunnen bemachtigen. Dit is een viool van Francis Kuttner; een ware alleskunner. 

Het was ook een grote eer om een strijkstok uit te kiezen, die dan door het NMF zou worden aangeschaft ter uitbreiding van hun collectie. De Franse Bazin stok heeft een perfecte veerkracht en een souplesse die past bij mijn viool.

My name is Daniel Leenders. I have been playing the violin since I was three years old. At the age of eight, I was admitted to the Young Talent department of the conservatory and took lessons with Coosje Wijzenbeek and Koosje van Haeringen. At the age of fourteen, I was admitted to the Conservatoire Royal de Mons in the class of Daniel Rubenstein. I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. There I had lessons with Peter Brunt and Vera Beths. In the winter semester of 2019, I did an exchange at Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia, where I had lessons with Dr. Eduard Schmieder. 

I participated in masterclasses such as Upbeat International Summer Music School in Croatia, Internationale Sommerakademie in Austria, Festival Mozart in Belgium and Festival Pablo Casals in France. Here I took lessons with Shmuel Ashkenasy, Hagai Shaham, Dora Schwartzberg, Eszter Haffner, Olivier Charlier, Ulf Wallin, György Pauk and Elina Vähälä.

I am a prize winner at various competitions, such as the Stichting Jong Muziektalent Nederland, Iordens Viooldagen and the Prinses Christina Concours. In 2013 I won the 3rd prize at the Nedjalka Simeonova International Violin Competition in Bulgaria. In 2017 I received the Special Prize at the 1st Ilona Fehér Violin Competition in Budapest.

As a soloist I have performed regularly with various orchestras, including the Orquesta Filarmónica de la Universidad de Alicante conducted by Mihnea Ignat. I have performed violin concertos by Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn and Bruch, among others. In the context of orchestral playing, I have participated in projects with the National Youth Orchestra (Netherlands) and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. In addition, I regularly play in chamber orchestras and large symphony orchestras in the Netherlands and abroad, such as the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Kamerata Zuid and Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. For the 2025-2026 season, I am an academist at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. 

Thanks to the NMF, I can continue my development and my career as a musician extremely well. In the past, I played on a violin by Giulio Degani, then on the François-Louis Pique that was played by Theo Olof. Incidentally, this violin was Theo Olof's favorite, which made it an honor to be allowed to play it. In the meantime, I have been able to acquire my own instrument. This is a violin by Francis Kuttner; a true all-rounder. 

It was also a great honor to choose a bow, which would then be purchased by the NMF to expand their collection. The French Bazin bow has a perfect resilience and flexibility that suits my violin.
