Clara Gonzàlez Català

Clara González Català was born in Barcelona, Spain. She played the same cello for six years, which allowed her to gain admission to higher studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. However, in the third year of her Bachelor’s degree, she found that it was limiting her ability to progress.

Recently, she has performed with the Het Promenade Orkest (Netherlands) and, in recent years, has participated in several youth orchestras, including the JONC (Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya), JOIC (Jove Orquestra Internacional), JOCG (Jove Orquestra Comarques Gironines), El Musical Orchestra, Accademia Vicino, International Chamber Orchestra Academy (Philippsburg), JOSB (Jove Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona), JOSV (Jove Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès), and BANSIC (Banda Simfònica Infantil de Catalunya).

She has also received masterclasses from distinguished tutors who have greatly contributed to her musical development, including Benedict Kloeckner (Amsterdam), Dimitry Ferschtman (Amsterdam), Thomas Demenga (Basel), Guillermo Pastrana (Basel), Josep-Oriol Miró Cogul (Basel), Lluís Claret (Bellaterra, Spain), and Erica Wise (Barcelona).

Finally, in 2024, the NMF provided her with the loan of the cello she desperately needed. She has chosen a Bouman, Willem, Den Haag, 1995.

From the very first moment she played it, she knew it was the cello that best suited her style. She immediately noticed how easy it was to play and was especially impressed by the depth of its lower register, which allows her to interpret the music of Haydn and Schumann exactly as she envisions it.

This instrument has enabled her to express the special sensitivity that those who hear her play admire. She believes that with this cello, along with her skills, dedication, and effort, she will be able to achieve her goal of becoming a performer in a great orchestra. She is truly grateful for the support of the NMF and everyone who believes in her.
