Adriana Mendez Fernandez
viola da gamba, cello
Born in a family of musicians (both parents classical pianists) not playing an instrument was completely out of the question. I - unsurprisingly- started off playing the piano and from the age of six took cello lessons as well.
I did my early studies in my hometown’s Conservatory of Music, where I graduated from both instruments before I came to Amsterdam in 2017 to study my Bachelor in Classical Cello with teachers Maarten Mostert and Mick Stirling.
It was actually in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam where I had my first contact with the world of Early Music. Long story short, I completely fell in love with it and from this year I will be studying my Masters with my wonderful teachers Viola de Hoog in Baroque Cello and Mieneke van der Velden in Viola da Gamba.
Thanks to the NMF I get to play all day in a beautiful 7 string viola da gamba and do what I love most- making music with my friends.
